CCTV Technician / CCTV Installation Technician

Job Summary

A skilled technician responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and repairing CCTV and video surveillance systems to ensure reliable, secure monitoring across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Install & Configure:
    • Mount CCTV cameras, run necessary cabling (Cat‑5e/6, coaxial, fiber), set up NVRs/DVRs, and configure IP addressing and software.
  2. Preventive Maintenance: 
    • Perform routine inspections of cameras, cabling, network configurations, and system health checks.
  3. Troubleshooting & Repair: 
    • Diagnose and fix hardware/software issues—including video/audio loss, power failures, connectivity problems—and calibrate components. 
  4. System Integration: 
    • Coordinate with IT and security teams to integrate CCTV with access control, alarms, and analytics solutions. 
  5. Customer Support & Training: 
    • Provide end-user training, documentation, service reports, and technical support. 
  6. Compliance & Safety:
    •  Follow all relevant safety protocols, national/regional standards, and maintain a clean and professional workspace. 
  7. Documentation & Reporting: 
    • Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance logs, calibration certifications, and update CMMS or job records. 
  8. Subcontractor Oversight (optional): 
    • If applicable, supervise subcontractors, ensure quality workmanship, and adhere to contract and regulatory guidelines. 

Qualifications & Education

  • Education: 
    • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in electronics, networking, or CCTV systems preferred. 
  • Experience: 
    • 1–3 years (or more) installing and maintaining CCTV and related security systems. 
  • Certifications (preferred):
    • Electronics/Security certifications: A+, N+, etc...
    • Driver’s license for field-based roles. 
Required Skills & Competencies
  1. Technical Skills:Installation and configuration of analog and IP cameras.
  2. Structured cabling (coaxial, Cat 5e/6, fiber optics).
  3. Network fundamentals (IP addressing, subnetting, PoE).
  4. Proficiency with NVR/DVR platforms (e.g., Hikvision, Dahua, Pelco, Genetec, ExacqVision). 
  5. Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Able to identify root causes, perform preventive maintenance, and calibrate hardware (e.g., cameras, fiber links). 
  6. Software Proficiency: Comfortable using control/configuration software, reading technical manuals and wiring diagrams. 
  7. Soft Skills:Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork abilities. 
  8. Organized, detail-oriented, able to handle multiple jobs and effectively manage time. 
Physical & Work Conditions

Physical Requirements:
         Able to bend, kneel, climb ladders, lift up to 30–50 lbs, and work in diverse environmental conditions (indoor, outdoor, heights). 
Travel: 
        Local or sometimes regional travel required; occasional extended or international travel depending on projects.

Installation Quality: Systems configured accurately with minimal defects and delivered on time.
System Uptime: Reliability and minimal downtime through effective maintenance.
Customer Feedback: Positive feedback from clients and stakeholders.
Regulatory Compliance: Adherence to safety, industry standards, and certification requirements.
